"Greg"

I created this "profile" last year and used it to refer yacht owners to while I was searching for a boat to crew on. Since it is fairly complete I will just "lazily" use it again here. Thanks for your indulgence.

I have always loved the water and for the last couple of years have contemplated buying a liveaboard sailboat. Prudence having won out I have decided to spend some time crewing to see exactly what the lifesyle entails. I would be interested in an extended cruise that could extend into years.

I am living in the Dallas, Texas metroplex, 61, 6'0", 195lbs. and in excellent shape. I currently play volleyball twice a week, singles &/or doubles tennis once a week, occasionally tournaments, playing USTA Team Tennis, racquetball once a week and have been asked to start playing pick up soccer. I'm hoping I survive all this. :)

My last position was with a nation wide Medical Transcription company. When a new client hospital account was obtained I would take their current medical dictation reports and design and integrate them into our proprietary transcription system. I would then integrate these into a systems package for the transcriptionists to use. I would also integrate the hospital's system to work with ours. I am also adept at and have designed several websites.

I have a great attitude towards life. I'm very easy going, cheerful, outgoing, tolerant, cooperative, respectful, pleasant, agile, fit and willing to pitch in no matter how unpleasant the task. I'm neat and clean, intelligent, a non smoker, light social drinker, great sense of humor with an extremely wide range of interests. I am empathetic and a great listener. I make an excellent companion and can get along with anyone.

In my youth and while racing & riding motorcycles and go karts (actually started racing go karts in Albuquerque with the Unsers, of Indianapolis 500 fame), I have rebuilt several engines (2 and 4 stroke) from the ground up. Have also rebuilt many reciprocating single and two stage air compressors up to 100 hosepower so have excellent engine diagnostic & repair skills and can easily help maintain a shipboard engine.

I worked with weapons control radar while in the Navy so have a sound knowledge of electronics. This experience will make it easy to understand and use shipboard radar.

I purchased, repaired and resold houses for my own account so have a lot of expertise in all aspects of construction including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, sheathing, concrete work, interior design etc..

I am certified in first aid and CPR. I am not a nurse or EMT but having a mother, sister & aunt who were, an uncle and a lifelong friend who are physicians, a son who is a registered massage therapist and through many skiing and soccer coaching clinics have an excellent understanding of medications and the workings of the physiology of the human body and lastly but probably not as useful aboard ship, I am a certified clinical hypnotherapist.

I attended Cerritos College in Long Beach, California and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

I would rather play sports than watch. Some activities dear to my heart: I played and taught tournament tennis with numerous victories and once, won the singles, men's doubles & mixed doubles in the same tournament. Was a contestant and medaled in Pepsi Standard & Nastar ski racing, organized, played, coached and won division 2 & 3 men's and women's soccer and did the same with several adult co-ed "indoor" teams. Love boating, volleyball, dirt bike desert racing, numerous hang gliding flights off of 10,600 foot Sandia Peak in Albuquerque, NM, sky diving and powered parachuting. I love high mountains, secluded desert outbacks, blue oceans & white sandy beaches.

Love all types of music except Heavy Metal or Rap. Sang in a US touring concert choir for 5 years. Tour highlights were singing at Radio City Music Hall and Carnegie Hall in New York City and the Ford Theatre/Concert Hall in Detroit, Michigan. Played first chair trumpet 3 out of 4 years in a concert/marching band, played piano for 4 years, played violin for 2 years. Especially enjoy blazing symphonies and eclectic "space" music and have composed some of my own.

I even had a large really cool stamp collection that got lost in a move somewhere along the way. :)

In the mid '70s myself and 2 other guys kept a 38' cabin cruiser in the Long Beach Marina in Los Angeles and spent a lot of time cruising out to Catalina Island, the channel islands and the surrounding waters so am familiar with the rules and conventions of the water ways and know how to stand a watch. While riding dirt bikes in the 5000 square miles of forests of S.E. Oklahoma I became adept at using DeLorme's "Topo USA" for navigation of literally thousands of forest and logging roads so am able to design and develop waypoints into routes and complete trips. This will easily translate to ocean plotting & navigation. For the past 6 years I owned a 20' 350hp Merc Cruiser I/O ski boat. I am "very" safety conscious and have never even come close to having an accident. My only pure "sailing" experience, other than wind surfing, was during my cabin cruiser days. A fellow with a racing sailboat several slips away wanted to join a race in the harbor but had no crew so he commandeered myself and a friend and away we went. It was an exciting experience albeit we didn't win. :)

I am an extremely fast understudy and know I would have no trouble picking up the intricacies of sailing. I am happily willing to do whatever is necessary to help keep the boat in tip top shape be it at sea, in port or on the hard. I am also willing to pay for my fair share of expenses. I am VERY computer literate. I am even a fairly good cook.

I have included several pictures of myself below in case you might be interested.

Would very much appreciate any additional information about your experience, itinerary, the boat, what you expect from the crew and what you are expecting in the way of monetary contributions, if any.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and again, I hope you have some room left onboard and that you feel I might be a good fit and able to contribute to your crew.
